Termas do Gerês dates back to Roman times, but it was in the 18th century that D. João V ordered the construction of the first thermal establishment. The characteristics of its waters make it suitable for the treatment of hypertension, obesity, diabetes, kidney and gallstones, liver and rheumatic diseases. Water is medicinal and drinkable in small daily amounts.
Currently there is a SPA, heated pool, gym, massage programs and thermal aesthetics available. Gerês Spa treatments
The treatment provided at Termas do Gerês involves drinking water from Fonte da Bica for a minimum recommended period of 14 days. Water is taken in small amounts, usually 3 to 4 times a day, as recommended by the thermal physician. The thermal treatment includes two consultations by the doctor, one before the start of treatments and another at the end of the thermal period.

The water you drink at Termas do Gerês has a high pH, markedly alkaline, of 9.1.
It is a weakly mineralized water, with thiosulfated and sodium bicarbonated ionic composition. It is hyperthermal water, since water emerges at a temperature above 40ºC (47ºC).
It is clear and odorless, atypical, and no other is known. According to the information available at Termas do Gerês, the approximate values of the main water parameters are as follows:
